The Hindu reported that Politician Omar Abdullah’s divorce plea from his estranged wife, Payal Abdullah, was denied in court on 30 August 2016.

The circumstances behind the plea and the courts response were interesting.

Omar’s claims paint an ugly picture:

Married 1 September 1994
Conjugal relations ceased after 2007
Lived separately since 2009
Accused wife of cruelty, desertion and unreasonable conduct

The couple has two sons living with the mother.

The judge ruled that Omar had failed to prove irretrievable breakdown of the marriage.

Change is what we do. It can’t be avoided. The problem is we don’t always change in the best ways or the right direction.

Sometimes abilities lay dormant. We don’t make the effort to develop them.

Sometimes abilities diminish. We develop them and then don’t use them.

Sometimes we take on bad habits or waste energy attempting to be things we can’t or shouldn’t. Not wrong things but things outside the limitations of our talent set.

Sometimes and worst of all – but strangely acceptable to most – we plateau. We reach above-average, rest on our laurels and stop forging ahead.

The time to be-there is usually the most uncomfortable, most dangerous, most inconvenient time to be present. It can be expensive too.

It’s easier to watch from a distance. If you consider yourself a real friend, though, don’t stare . . . be there. The rule is simple:

You can’t listen if you’re not in audible range.

You can’t express compassion without showing your face.

You can’t hold a hand or dry a tear unless you’re within arms reach.

You can’t change the atmosphere unless you’re in it.

But do be careful. In-your-face is a little too close at any time.

Side by side, Tim Pepper’s songs create a kaleidoscope of sound. A rainbow of genres that are rarely the same. The pattern doesn’t repeat, but after a hundred plus songs – and you thought there were no new rhythms to feature – he surprises us with something new. A Spanish Flamenco feel, with both clapping and foot stomping.

Not to worry. You don’t need frilly attire or long flowing skirts to feel the vibe. For those stuck in the rock mode, like me, there’s a bit of that too. It’s soft and dynamic, quiet and loud, meek and assertive.
