5 Truths About The Changes God Makes

August 30, 2016 by EnnisP Leave a Comment

Change is just as certain as death and taxes.

Every One Changes
Every Day

Change is what we do. It can’t be avoided. The problem is we don’t always change in the best ways or the right direction.

Sometimes abilities lay dormant. We don’t make the effort to develop them.

Sometimes abilities diminish. We develop them and then don’t use them.

Sometimes we take on bad habits or waste energy attempting to be things we can’t or shouldn’t. Not wrong things but things outside the limitations of our talent set.

Sometimes and worst of all – but strangely acceptable to most – we plateau. We reach above-average, rest on our laurels and stop forging ahead.

The Bible gives us many reasons to see Change differently. [Read more…] about 5 Truths About The Changes God Makes

What Does Be-There Really Mean?

August 19, 2016 by EnnisP Leave a Comment

Being there is somewhere between watching from a distance and in your face.

Don’t Be Unaware
Be There

The time to be-there is usually the most uncomfortable, most dangerous, most inconvenient time to be present. It can be expensive too.

It’s easier to watch from a distance. If you consider yourself a real friend, though, don’t stare . . . be there. The rule is simple:

You can’t listen if you’re not in audible range.

You can’t express compassion without showing your face.

You can’t hold a hand or dry a tear unless you’re within arms reach.

You can’t change the atmosphere unless you’re in it.

But do be careful. In-your-face is a little too close at any time.

Tim Pepper Music – The Good Fight

August 19, 2016 by EnnisP Leave a Comment

Tim Pepper by the railroad track.

It’s Not Tuesday
But There’s Plenty Of Soul

Side by side, Tim Pepper’s songs create a kaleidoscope of sound. A rainbow of genres that are rarely the same. The pattern doesn’t repeat, but after a hundred plus songs – and you thought there were no new rhythms to feature – he surprises us with something new. A Spanish Flamenco feel, with both clapping and foot stomping.

Not to worry. You don’t need frilly attire or long flowing skirts to feel the vibe. For those stuck in the rock mode, like me, there’s a bit of that too. It’s soft and dynamic, quiet and loud, meek and assertive.

Thought provoking!

You can book Tim Pepper for house shows and more.

This Week In Divorce – India’s Arranged Marriages

August 18, 2016 by EnnisP Leave a Comment

Free-Choice and consequence are the seeds of a fertile life.

Engagement And Marriage
Represent One Of The Most
Emotionally Charged Periods
In Family Life

I’m not an expert on Indian marriage but Utpal Dholakia, native to India but resident in the USA for more than twenty years, can speak with authority on the subject and has.

His recent post on Psychology Today (Why Are So Many Indian Arranged Marriages Successful? 24Nov2015) poses a very interesting question and implies, without actually saying it, that arranged marriage – the method of choice in India – may have the answer to today’s divorce dilemmas.

Although he clearly states he is NOT suggesting arranged is a better option than free-choice, it is definitely implied. The spirit of the article seems to contradict his disclaimer.

It’s an interesting theory, but I’m not convinced. His arguments start out weakly and get worse.

[do_widget id=media_image-4]

Before I say more, please understand that I am not talking about Indians in general. I’m not even bashing India. As Utpal points out, India is modernizing at an incredible rate on many levels and that is to be applauded.

I’m also not poking at Utpal, although his article did provoke this response.

I’m questioning the wisdom of endorsing an approach to love and marriage that has a long history of abuse and control. I think we should modernize the perspective a bit.

So, to my response. [Read more…] about This Week In Divorce – India’s Arranged Marriages

4 Important Things You Must Do Everyday

August 15, 2016 by EnnisP Leave a Comment

Relationally we're all different and the same.

Thinking
Is Never A Waste

With fast paced schedules and relentless demands, life can be hectic. Battle, chaos, tumult all round. Overload! Confusing!

It’s easy to get lost in the melee and feel the ground slipping at the end of each day. But all is not lost. In fact, very little. Your sense of frustration, your lack of accomplishment may be more a matter of perspective than reality.

The way to feeling a sense of balance, if not accomplishment, requires nothing more than a map. Include the following four items in your daily life, in no particular order, and your sense of accomplishment will improve.

Be Relational

When it comes to relationship nature, we are all different, but when it comes to relationship needs, we are all the same.

Everyone needs acceptance and affirmation. But to receive that, you must give it.

But what is that, other than two sides of the same coin. Can you affirm a person without accepting them? Can you accept a person and not affirm them? Acceptance happens when: [Read more…] about 4 Important Things You Must Do Everyday
